79 Prize winners were presented at the 1st International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival in Cologne |

Cologne, 24.04.09 – Yesterday evening in Cologne, approximately 400 guests celebrated the 79 prize winners of the 1st International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival. For the first time, Eyes & Ears of Europe, the European association for design, promotion and marketing of audiovisual media, conferred the prizes for the best international, European and national productions in the genres lead-in, promotion spot, promotion campaign, merchandising & ambient promotion, online promotion, interactive promotion and cross-media campaign.
The 79 prize winners were happy to receive their awards yesterday at the 1st International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival in Cologne. From a total of 386 entries, the jury of the European council for the design, promotion & marketing of audiovisual media had selected the best international, European and national productions. 186 companies from Great Britain, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, the USA and Germany were involved in the works submitted. The prizes were conferred in 14 categories: Image, News & Information, Documentary, Feature & Reportage, Art & Culture, Sport, Event, Show, Kids & Family, Series & Mini-Series, TV Movie & Film, Cinema Trailer, Music Video and Social Commitment.
"With the implementation of programme promotion, we revolutionised television at that time. Instead of boards and presenters, there were moving images. In this way, we awakened the viewers' desire for the content within the programme flow," stated former RTL creative director and chairman of Eyes & Ears of Europe Prof. Manfred Becker in his welcome.
In her welcome address, Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, Mayor of the City of Cologne, said: "I was happy to accept the invitation to the 1st International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival – not least because I consider this event to be an enrichment for Cologne as a media and creative location. The International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival gives new incentives and provides concrete insights into the work of AV media. Thanks to the activities of Eyes & Ears of Europe, communications trends are presented which are already shaping the audiovisual media landscape today and will continue to do so in future. I find it particularly interesting to see how many different players felt an affinity with the competition."
From 55 project proposals, the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival is one of five concepts which was suggested for support of the European Union's European Regional Development Fund in the context of the regional competition CREATE.NRW. The competition to identify the best ideas for the culture and creative industry in North-Rhine Westphalia was undertaken by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy in North-Rhine Westphalia. Dr. Ulrich Hettinger from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy in North-Rhine Westphalia passed along the congratulations and regards of NRW minister of economic affairs Christa Thoben. In his welcome address, Hettinger stressed the special significance of the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival with regard to the cluster strategy of the state authorities for the media, culture and creative industry.
"The International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival was long overdue. There is no comparable event anywhere in the world with this specific format. Our special thanks go to the experts from the different fields of the culture and creative industry, who recognized and valued the opportunities related to the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival during the selection process of the regional competition CREATE.NRW. Trailer and trailer-related forms of audiovisual communication are decisive success factors in communication, marketing and advertising in the context of digital development – and this applies not only for the media, culture and creative branch. Ultimately, the trailer is the smallest module of audiovisual communication in the digital era," says Wout Nierhoff, CEO of Eyes & Ears of Europe.
