The uniting of European peoples and cultures is one of the guidelines of ARTE. Eyes & Ears of Europe provides the opportunity to discover different creative and marketing approaches in the European TV landscape. Against the background of globalisation it is important that European TV stations and creative professionals get together and exchange experiences - the successful ones as well as the less successful ones. A common creative strive is the vision in order to stand out as a distinctive voice in the international scene. Eyes & Ears of Europe plays this connecting and linking part as a neutral and open platform for creative innovations. That is why Eyes & Ears of Europe deserves the support of all those who believe in European creative and strategic talent.

Whether in times of plenty or the middle of a global economic crisis: Media business is people's business. As an association, Eyes & Ears of Europe is the ideal platform for looking beyond one's own nose together with other media people. This applies not only for the specific fields represented by creative people and media specialists. For many years, young talents and established professionals have been meeting through Eyes & Ears of Europe on a consistently high content level. All this is done with the individual touch of the creators of Eyes & Ears of Europe, who fortunately do without the usual mass processing of other media associations.

Refreshing perspectives and interesting experiments are presented by trainees, students and graduates at the annual Eyes & Ears Junior Showcase. Here, these young creative individuals have the chance to present their projects to an international audience. They gladly take advantage of this opportunity – also to make important contacts for their later working life. I think it is very good that Eyes & Ears of Europe is committed to the next generation of creative talents in such a concrete fashion. |

Looking back, media have always been subject to change in terms of content, design and technology. Today we stand at the dawn of a media revolution. The once clear-cut demarcation between the different disciplines has, to a great extent, dissolved. With the boundless offerings resulting from this, distribution and consumer behaviour has drastically changed. Eyes & Ears of Europe brings together the determining minds of multimedia communication and recognises cross-media trends and developments. From it, Eyes & Ears of Europe derives the resultant demands and consequences of multimedia production: the content value of service. Accordingly, Eyes & Ears of Europe can, via a communication platform, become a valid means of orientation and influential authority for decision-makers in media, politics and society.

On the one hand, you have creativity and ideas. On the other, you find trends and constantly changing demands on our creative teams. With Eyes & Ears of Europe, we have an excellent and unique platform for seeing both sides simultaneously and covering them in continuous processes. There's no better way of keeping one's eyes and ears open.

Especially in the education of young people in creative and technical professions, it is very important to me that the future generation of media creators is provided with a fertile contact with the multinational media network Eyes & Ears of Europe at an early stage. For example, young creative individuals can show their projects within the Eyes & Ears Junior Showcase. In addition, the events of the Eyes & Ears Academy and the Eyes & Ears Awards offer the students, graduates and young professionals input, exchange and inspiration. All in all: A membership in Eyes & Ears of Europe quickly pays dividends.

"He who no longer wants to become better, has stopped being good," says Reinhard Mohn, Bertelsmann patriarch on BR-Alpha, the educational programme of the Bavarian broadcasting company. Through communication with representatives of all media in the context of Eyes & Ears of Europe, a constant exchange of views exists which also acts like a form of monitoring of one's own work. Eyes & Ears of Europe has succeeded in promoting and continuously redefining this objective-critical dialogue.

Exchange, Inspiration, Communication. Eyes & Ears of Europe makes an important contribution for all professionals working in the media field: the exchange with colleagues, the inspiration from other projects and a discussion forum about subjects we all have to deal with, whether we work at a channel, agency, media or production house. Against the background of radical change in the media world information about new developments and the profound working on ideas and contents in seminars and workshops are essential. Interdisciplinary and open. |

'Cooking is just like life. It depends on the ingredients,' thus the 'Chef of the Century' Eckart Witzigmann. To stick with this image - one cannot praise the great variety of the menue of Eyes & Ears of Europe enough. It always includes a 'Gustostückerl' - Austrian for 'canapé' - for media chefs. It thus prevents the risk of serving the same dishes to our guests for too long. After all, we all wish that our customers keep stopping off at our house. In that sense: 0% fat, 100% content - enjoy it!

Since 1995 Eyes & Ears of Europe has developed into a strong association of the most important and most successful media companies in Europe. The significance of Eyes & Ears of Europe as the European community of media designers, promoters and marketers is reflected in the great number of members. One of the essential goals of Eyes & Ears of Europe is carried out in the regular workshops and seminars. They are always a rich source of education, exchange and creative impulses. Over and above that, Eyes & Ears of Europe is the only association for the design, promotion and marketing of audiovisual media of a truly international European quality. Eyes & Ears of Europe thus fulfils the mission to make progress with the media developments in a uniting Europe.

The events organized by Eyes & Ears of Europe provide me with an exchange of creative ideas far beyond the criteria of commercial scenarios. Financially weak TV stations also play an important part in the areas of design, promotion and marketing of audiovisual media, because there is always but one essential thing that counts - the idea.

Alone the name Eyes & Ears of Europe focuses on the people in the association: It refers to European media professionals who are involved in the design, promotion and marketing of audio-visual media with watchful eyes and trained ears. Eyes & Ears of Europe offers its members a platform for fruitful exchange. The members' various fields of work often bring similar challenges with them, but everyone has different experiences: through success or even through failure, through either good or rather difficult working structures and conditions. The healthy competition between the member institutions and creative professionals is reduced to a triviality, and the relevant topics and interests move into focus. Through the exchange - also via the Eyes & Ears eNews - one is always thoroughly informed about what is going on in the media industry. Furthermore, one develops a better understanding for the different fields of work, diverse tasks, company structures and target groups that the public and free TV stations, the production companies and design agencies as well as the freelancers have to cope with. Apart from the yearly Eyes & Ears Conference and the Eyes & Ears Awards the mono-thematic workshops of the Eyes & Ears Academy are an absolute USP of the association. The number of participants is kept deliberately small so that the learning experience is intense and one can ask a lot of questions. The range of the professional lecturers who share their know-how and experiences, on the other hand, is broad. Thus, every participant - whether student or established professional in the industry - benefits on a personal and professional level.

Eyes & Ears of Europe secures a permanent creative input. As a composer and audio designer I find it important to be fully involved in what happens in the media scene. To see and to hear what the TV stations and producers think and do is as inspiring as discussing the requirements of our times with the representatives from the different member companies. Eyes & Ears of Europe has its fingers on the pulse of the times and catalyzes networking. In the informative conferences and events ideas and contacts are developed as well as a lot of fun, which is also extremely important for a successful career in the audiovisual media industry. |

The open and uncomplicated exchange of views and information is one of the main strengths of Eyes & Ears of Europe. Communication takes place on an interdisciplinary level and without any tension between public and private broadcasters. At the same time, our network is an international showcase for current creative trends. An important source of inspiration that is necessary for reinventing oneself. How many ideas would never have been hatched without the creative impulses set free in us through other works? However, it is not exclusively about creativity: Workshops and seminars on subjects relevant to the field help to keep pace with constantly changing demands in the areas of design, promotion and marketing of the audio-visual media. Exchange, inspiration, knowledge and information are for me the four most important cornerstones of Eyes & Ears of Europe. I look forward to many more exciting events and intensive talks within the scope of Eyes & Ears of Europe.

Eyes & Ears of Europe offers a comprehensive exchange with professionals from the areas of design, promotion and marketing of the audiovisual media. As a creative director for interactive media, at Eyes & Ears of Europe I always find interfaces to other areas of the media industry that give me new impulses. Via this interdisciplinary communication platform an overall picture of where the media are and where they are going to develops. Eyes & Ears of Europe is a window to the future that helps me to recognize tendencies, fashions and trends at an early stage. Of great importance in this context are the seminars of the Eyes & Ears Academy and the yearly Eyes & Ears Conference that reflects the state-of-the-art and the perspectives of the media industry in a comprehensive form during two days. |

In 1995, a group of professionals from the audiovisual media industry met in Cologne. They were unsatisfied with the situation at the time that TV design and promotion packages for the then flourishing European TV landscape as a matter of course were ordered, developed and produced for heaps of dollars in Los Angeles. Sometimes European Bauhaus ideas were sold back to us or glossy American mainstream design with no affinity to European design traditions was delivered. It was high time to take our own responsibility seriously, to define quality goals and to secure the professional education. With the energy of our highly competent members we have released and linked up the European creative potential. With the forum Eyes & Ears of Europe we have made sure that many creative companies were founded in the surroundings of the TV stations and production companies. Analogous to that, we have encouraged designers and producers to enter the market as freelancers and thus have got off the ground a development of which the end is not yet in sight. |

The outstanding relevance of Eyes & Ears of Europe constitutes itself in the continuous reflection and critical debate about our creative work. Only those who understand why and how things develop will be able to contribute to the future creative evolution within our guild. Particularly for young creative talents, Eyes & Ears of Europe offers an excellent opportunity to get extensive and comprehensive information about the professional field they work or would like to work in. Eyes & Ears of Europe stands for market transparency that is lived by all the members of the association. A fertile ground for innovative as well as targeted ideas and projects. |
