450 guests at the 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival in Cologne

Cologne, 26.04.10 – Last week, 450 guests celebrated the prize winners of the 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival in Cologne. For the second time, Eyes & Ears of Europe, the European association for the design, promotion and marketing of audiovisual media, conferred the prizes for the best international, European and national productions.
The prize winners were happy to receive their awards at the 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival in Cologne. From a total of 343 entries, the jury of the European council for the design, promotion & marketing of audiovisual media had selected the best international, European and national productions. 186 companies from the US, Great Britain, France, Greece, Russia, Austria, Switzerland and Germany were involved in the works submitted. The prizes were conferred in 13 categories: Image, News & Information, Documentary, Feature & Reportage, Arts & Culture, Sports, Events, Shows, Kids & Family, Series & Mini-Series, TV Movies & Film, Cinema Trailer, Music Video and Social Commitment.
"Trailers, on-air and online promotion as well as campaigns are nearly indispensable in the age of digitalisation. I'm especially pleased that the wide range of productions submitted covers the most different fields – from TV to university productions. The award winners of the 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival attract attention and offer identity. They grab the viewer no matter where he is – whether it's at the cinema or on the Internet", stated Eyes & Ears of Europe chairman Prof. Manfred Becker in his welcome.
In her welcome address, Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, Mayor of the City of Cologne, said: "The event tonight is an enrichment for Cologne as a media and creative location. The International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival gives new incentives and provides specific insights into the work of AV media. At the same time, the festival underlines exactly the kind of international networking that has characterized Eyes & Ears of Europe from the very beginning. Tonight's 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival will show us what it means to let creative people work and to support lateral thinkers."
Hans Stein, representative of North-Rhine Westphalia at the European Union in Brussels, focused on the importance of trailers in the European context. "Trailers are a means of communication that goes out via television, movie, mobile TV or the Internet. They are also part of the cultural and creative industry. In 2008, 760,000 people worked in these markets in Germany, contributing 132 billion euros to the gross domestic product. The International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival clearly illustrates the importance of international exchange of techniques, protagonists and opinions. The competition proves that only by working together can European, national, regional and local protagonists realize their measures and aims."
In his speech, Dr. Jens Baganz, State secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Business and Energy in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Dusseldorf, stressed the importance of the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival with regard to the media, cultural and creative economy in North-Rhine-Westphalia: "For different reasons, the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival has a special meaning for the markets of the cultural and creative industries: first of all, it serves as a forum. It's here where creative thinkers can compare themselves with those from other regions and countries, both inside and outside of Europe."
Wout Nierhoff, CEO of Eyes & Ears of Europe, picked up where Baganz left off: "The International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival promotes the professional exchange of content know-how among experts from the media, culture and creative field. Additionally, it is a perfect platform for existing and future networks and co-operations – In the context of digital economy and far beyond the strict limits of the media, communications and dialogue industry: for instance, with regard to the ongoing audio-visualisation of companies' and organizations' communications, live events and outdoor advertising. That's where the International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival, with its wide range of high-quality innovative productions, sets a benchmark, and where it offers a broad spectrum of impulses and inspirations."
Partners of the 2nd International Eyes & Ears Trailer Festival were CRAXX Medienproduktion, Brandsome, ifs internationale filmschule köln, Interone, Deutsche Welle, RTL CREATION, Super RTL, VOX, n-tv, verytv, Locomotion, RTL interactive, Köln International School of Design, Pixelpark, eberweinpardeike, TOF Intermedia, Screenworks, Avid, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the EUROPEAN UNION and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, represented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Business and Energy.
