ifs study course: ‘Editing Image and Sound’ |

From the time of the silent film until today, film editing has developed continuously – and with it the great number of filmic creative devices. Editors of image and sound make an artistic contribution to the creation of motion pictures, short films or documentary films. In the winter semester 2010/11, the ‘Editing Image and Sound’ Bachelor study course begins at the ifs internationale filmschule köln. During this six-semester programme, the main focus is on storytelling, film editing and sound design. The aim is to strengthen the narrative through editing and to find the appropriate sound for the frames. In this context, production of sound quality plays an essential role. Interdisciplinary project works in the area of motion picture or documentary film will be offered to students. The students will work on these film projects together with fellow students currently studying film direction, screenwriting, creative producing and cinematography. The intention is to develop their skills in optimising postproduction workflow and to enable them to work with professional editing devices. Theoretical seminars on topics such as history of film, film analysis and trend-setting analysis from the field of applied media sciences complete the study course. Workshops where students deal playfully with sound experiments, photography, perception concepts and free writing exercises are designed to give students enough room to be creative independent of the result. The application deadline for the winter semester 2010/11 is 1 October 2010.
