lostview produces design packaging for comedy format 'PHREAK |

On 13 July 2010, a new comedy format named 'PHREAK' will go on the air at ProSieben. The concept is familiar from radio: the host calls unsuspecting people and plays tricks on them. The programme will also include hidden camera segments. The name and design packaging for the new format were created by the Cologne agency lostview. The name ‘Phreak’ derives from the term “phreaking”, which is used to describe the hacking of telephone connections. The design idea resulted from it. The logo refers e.g. to the chaos computer club. Further design elements developed by lostview include openers, separators, closers and the visualisation of a total of 15 minutes of telephone conversation for each broadcast. "Our design aims to underline the underground character of the format – it is meant to have an urban, ‘dirty’ and unpolished effect. At the same time, it was important for us to preserve the hacking background of the name. The term originates from a time when PCs and Internet did not yet exist", explains Marc Pettersson, Director at lostview. "Aside from technical know-how of the functioning of the tone dialling system, social engineering was also significant element – meaning the manipulation of callers in order to get them to do things that normally weren’t allowed", continues Pettersson. Four lostview artists spent three months working on the first eight episodes of the series. The design package was produced with Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.
